An investigation about the effect of Industry 4.0 technologies on the Operational, Environmental and Economic Performance: evidence from a survey

Prior research has extensively examined the influence of Industry 4.0 digital technologies on company performance. Several studies have delved into specific performance dimensions, such as economic, operational and environmental. However, the literature presents divergent findings regarding the impact of digital technologies on companies’ operational performance. Furthermore, the connections between the latter and the environmental and economic performance are still controversial. Thus, the aim of this paper is twofold: investigate on the effect that Industry 4.0 technologies can have on the operational performance; explore the effect of operational performance improvement, based on technology adoption, on both the environmental and economic performance.
