This study examines recent transformations of continuing training policies in Europe through the analysis of two “distant” case histories: the Italian and the Romanian continuing training systems. We treat the chosen subject of our study from a conceptual point of view, considering the evolution of the continuing training system at the European level. A major point in our analysis is the influence of EU on Romania and Italy (in a top-down perspective) and the possible impact of the two country upon the structures of the Union (in a bottom-up perspective). The aspects related to the relationships between Romania and Italy make the object of a study case. We considered introducing this particular case study due to the fact that Italia and Romania are actually deeply connected either on the immigration level – Romanian people are actually the most numerous immigrants in Italy - and on the political and economical levels.
