The following dissertation aims to highlight the main role of the digitalization in artists’ archives, in connection with conservation and enhancement needs. Documents stored in archives — including photographies, letters and projects — become fundamental in the reconstruction of work relationships, exhibitions and creative processes of artists. Materials’ frailty and the difficult access to these resources define a necessity to whom digital transition could remedy. Furthermore, new instances from contemporary art, related to the usage of other media and the dematerialization of the art-object, make retrieving documental material for its correct restitution necessary. The case study, the digitalization of Vincenzo Agnetti Archive, and specifically of the artist correspondence, is an example that lays the foundation for a consideration on a new way to manage artists’ archive.
