This essay highlights the influence of Ezra Pound on Roberto Sanesi’s inspiration from the very beginning of his poetic production. Canto XC, one of the four Cantos translated by Sanesi in his Italian anthology of American poets (1958), belongs to Rock-Drill LXXXV-XCV de los Cantares, a section of Pound’s Cantos first published in 1955. The essay deals with Canto XC and analyses Sanesi’s approach, both as a translator and as a poet himself, to Pound’s poetry with a special focus on Il feroce equilbrio, Sanesi’s first collection of poems published in 1957.
