The article focuses on some letters sent by the Prato notary ser Schiatta di ser Michele di Meo Ferranti to Francesco di Marco Datini and describes their rhetorical characteristics in the light of vernacular epistolary practice, highlighting how some dramatic events on a personal level (in particular, the progressive indebtedness towards Datini) and a collective one (in particular, the plague of 1400) modify their expressive style.
