The contribution aims to present the participatory process "Croisement des savoirs et des pratiques avec des personnes en situation de pauvreté et d’exclusion sociale" developed by the international ATD (Aide à Toute détresse) Quart Monde movement in 1990. With the goal of formulating effective and sustainable policies and projects to fight poverty, ATD seeks to enhance the experience of people in poverty by integrating it with academic and professional knowledge. The article aims to outline the defining features of the participatory process used by ATD, whose principles originated from the early poverty alleviation efforts in the 1970s and are now distinctive elements in the landscape of participatory research.
