This study explores the transformation of marriage in the face of individualization processes and examines the meanings and forms it has assumed in post-modernity. To this end, exploratory qualitative research was conducted on the similarities and differences in practices and meanings associated with the marriage rite, comparing three generations. The study was conducted in Italy on a sample of 48 couples belonging to three cohorts (under 35, 50-60 years, and over 70). The generational differences reflect a continuous evolution of marriage values and practices, confirming that, although the meanings and modalities of marriage change, it remains a crucial event in Italian social life.

Abstract
This study explores the transformation of marriage in the face of individualization processes and examines the meanings and forms it has assumed in post-modernity. To this end, exploratory qualitative research was conducted on the similarities and differences in practices and meanings associated with the marriage rite, comparing three generations. The study was conducted in Italy on a sample of 48 couples belonging to three cohorts (under 35, 50-60 years, and over 70). The generational differences reflect a continuous evolution of marriage values and practices, confirming that, although the meanings and modalities of marriage change, it remains a crucial event in Italian social life.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
