Recent aristotelian exegesis (Ch. Witt and A. Code) acknowledged the presence of a sort of “Jaegerian paradigm” in the critical studies about Aristotle along the past century. This paradigm is based on three related axioms: 1. To reconstruct the genesis of Aristotle’s thought means to understand it; 2. Aristotle became “Aristotelian” in opposing to Plato; 3. His effort to build a coherent first philosophy (metaphysics) failed to gain its purpose. Jaegerian paradigm can only be overcome by critically detecting all the three axioms; if only one of them is subscribed the whole paradigm is tacitly subscribed. This emerges considering the representative instances of G.E.L. Owen and Th. Irwin. Aristotelian exegesis which emerges instead from the sample of critical studies published on RFN between 1956 and 1976 are bare of Jaegerism, as long as they presuppose the aware rejection of the three axioms, along a line of interpretation started by Adolf Trendelenburg in the first half of XIX century. The study considers arguments supported in defending the coherence of Aristotelian Metaphysics by the early Severino, Guazzoni-Foà, Reale and Berti.
