Una fortificazione nell’area verbanese: il castrum di Bogno frazione di Besozzo (Varese)

In the territory of Bogno, already frequented in Roman and Lombard times, a small castrum was built in the early Middle Ages, which on August 10, 1000, was sold by Count Guiberto, brother of marquis Arduino of Ivrea. The sale has to be framed within the context of the clash that pitted Arduino and his family members against the bishops of the marca and the threats of confiscation encumbering the property of the marquis’ supporters. Other documents, including a deed dated 1043, published here for the first lime, attest to the subsequent changes of ownership of the fortified structure, traces of which are lost in the 13th century. In 1885 the mayor of Bogno still recognized some ruins of the ancient castrum on the village hill.

Nel territorio di Bogno. frequentato già in età romana e longobarda, nell’alto medioevo fu edificato un castrum di piccole dimensioni che il 10 agosto 1000 venne ceduto dal conte Guiberto, fratello del marchese Arduino d’Ivrea. La vendita va inquadrata entro il contesto dello scontro che oppose Arduino e i suoi familiari ai vescovi della marca e delle minacce di confisca gravanti sui beni dei sostenitori del marchese. Altri documenti, tra i quali un atto del 1043, qui edito per la prima volta, attestano i successivi passaggi di proprietà della struttura fortificata, di cui si perdono le tracce nel XIII secolo. Nel 1885 il sindaco di Bogno riconosceva ancora alcuni ruderi dell’antico castrum sulla collina del paese
