Chapter 14 of the "Philocalia" provides the reader with critical observations concerning Origen's method of reading and exegesis of the Scriptures. Notably, the study of the "elements of language" (τὰ λογικά) introduces the exegete to the full understanding of the meaning of the text and the related solution of its προβλήματα. By endorsing the "intention of the writing" (τὸ βούλημα τῆς γραφῆς) through the grammar of language, Origen achieves the most fruitful union of the profane disciplines with Christian doctrines and qualifies as a cultural and spiritual model for the successive Christian tradition.
