The Roman Villa of Aiano-Torraccia di Chiusi (San Gimignano, Tuscany) is one of the most intriguing large-scale residential complexes of Late Antiquity, with its peculiar architectural structures and its extension. This paper aims to present, for the first time, what remains of the wall paintings of the villa, which was incredibly richly decorated, as demonstrated by the sectilia and the mosaics discovered in the excavations carried out by UCLouvain since 2005.

Abstract

The Roman Villa of Aiano-Torraccia di Chiusi (San Gimignano, Tuscany) is one of the most intriguing large-scale residential complexes of Late Antiquity, with its peculiar architectural structures and its extension. This paper aims to present, for the first time, what remains of the wall paintings of the villa, which was incredibly richly decorated, as demonstrated by the sectilia and the mosaics discovered in the excavations carried out by UCLouvain since 2005.
