Philipp Lotmar is celebrated as the father of labour law in the twentieth century Germany. But he first was a Roman law scholar and also engaged himself in the general field of law and justice. The present essay is particularly dedicated to this less known aspect of his personality, on the occasion of a recent Italian translation of a series of his writings.
