The history of the Christians of Mesopotamia and Kurdistan before and after the Great War recounts the travails of all those communities cut off from the political designs both of the European chancelleries and of the new regional nationalist leaderships. Through the analysis of their micro-history, the paper reconsiders the consequences of the imposition of new borders and spheres of power within territories characterized by complex cultural, religious and community matrices. The analysis of the intrigues, misunderstandings, and different visions of their political future in the region can help to shed light on the controversial process of integrating these liminal communities and territories within the modern Iraqi political synthesis.

Abstract
The history of the Christians of Mesopotamia and Kurdistan before and after the Great War recounts the travails of all those communities cut off from the political designs both of the European chancelleries and of the new regional nationalist leaderships. Through the analysis of their micro-history, the paper reconsiders the consequences of the imposition of new borders and spheres of power within territories characterized by complex cultural, religious and community matrices. The analysis of the intrigues, misunderstandings, and different visions of their political future in the region can help to shed light on the controversial process of integrating these liminal communities and territories within the modern Iraqi political synthesis.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
