Il Crocifisso e le vie crucis nell'arte contemporanea

The research for the international conference CrossingWords The Cross and the world, having argued to the continuation of the representation of the cross in contemporary art, takes into consideration some contributions of high artistic quality in the very wide panorama of theme proposed. The case studies selected move over a period of time going from the Severini cycles of frescoes in the churches in Svizzera Romanda (1923-1959) to the Rainer crosses passing through Sutherland, Fontana, Azuma, Pirandello and Scorzelli. The search indexes highlighted for this absolutely central theme faced by believers and non-believers artists, are: the circumstances in which these works were created, the relationship with the client, the changes they implied in the disciplinary research of the artist, if they win the bet to be alike "daughters of their time and mothers of our feelings."

La ricerca per il convegno internazionale CrossingWords La croce e il mondo, dopo aver ragionato sulla persistenza della rappresentazione della croce nell’arte contemporanea, prende in considerazioni alcuni apporti di alta qualità artistica nell’amplissimo panorama del tema proposto. I casi di studio prescelti si muovono in un arco di tempo che va dai cicli di affreschi di Severini nelle chiese della Svizzera Romanda (1923-1959) alle croci di Rainer passando per Sutherland, Fontana, Azuma, Pirandello e Scorzelli. Gli indici di ricerca evidenziati, per questo tema di assoluta centralità affrontato da artisti credenti e non credenti, sono le circostanze in cui tali opere sono nate, il rapporto con la committenza, quale cambiamento abbiano implicato nella ricerca disciplinare dell’artista, se vincano la scommessa di essere ugualmente “figlie del loro tempo e madri dei nostri sentimenti”.
