L’emergenza suicidaria nelle carceri italiane: un’analisi di due circolari adottate dal Dipartimento dell’Amministrazione penitenziaria nell’«anno dei suicidi»

This paper aims to analyze the institutional response to the dramatic problem of prison suicides, focusing on two acts adopted by the Italian Department of prison administration to contain suicidal behaviours in prison and their tragic effects. Regarding the first document, the analysis will highlight the need for effective preventive strategies based on a multidisciplinary, global and continuous intervention on the person and also focused on listening and medical support of the inmates at risk of suicide. In the same perspective, the second document takes into consideration for the first time the mental health itself of the members of the prison police, which also needs to beprotected in order to improve the general well-being of the entire prison institution
