This paper aims at analysing the use of valency grammar for the teaching of Italian as a second language. After considering the pedagogical implications of Tesnière’s theory of valency grammar and its relevance in the history of language teaching, we illustrate the valency model proposed by Sabatini for the Italian language. The focus then turns to the advantages and applications of this model for the teaching of Italian as a second language, with examples of teaching activities which can be adapted to different types of learners. The paper thus presents the results of an empirical research conducted in the context of the Italian L2 teaching to university students, carried out with the aim of analysing the learning and teaching effectiveness of valency grammar.

Abstract
This paper aims at analysing the use of valency grammar for the teaching of Italian as a second language. After considering the pedagogical implications of Tesnière’s theory of valency grammar and its relevance in the history of language teaching, we illustrate the valency model proposed by Sabatini for the Italian language. The focus then turns to the advantages and applications of this model for the teaching of Italian as a second language, with examples of teaching activities which can be adapted to different types of learners. The paper thus presents the results of an empirical research conducted in the context of the Italian L2 teaching to university students, carried out with the aim of analysing the learning and teaching effectiveness of valency grammar.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
