This the last issue of Oasis, a journal launched in 2004. It is the occasion for a retrospective appraisal of the last 20 years in the Arab-Islamic world. The cycle opened by the September 11 2001 attacks has come to an end with the American withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Middle East exits from the terror impoverished and less diverse. It has undergone dramatic changes during the Covid pandemics and is facing an impending ecological crisis. Challenges are immense, but hope is not yet lost.
