'SOLAR' AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN HUMANS AND THE ENVIRONMENT: AN INCREASINGLY TOPICAL LESSON ON GLOBAL WARMING This paper is about Ian McEwan’s 'Solar' (2010), a novel on climate change and human behaviour in emergency situations. Although it is not a climate novel, 'Solar' shares with this genre imminent catastrophes, a sense of guilt and need to intervene without wasting time. Through Michael Beard, the protagonist of the novel, and the way he abuses the health of his body, McEwan reveals and ridicules how we abuse the resources of our planet and teaches us an important ethical and moral lesson.
