Many economists, sociologists, management scholars, business leaders and politicians wonder why capitalism has emerged unscathed from the great crises it has produced. Most of the time the debates are driven by the confrontation between free market fans and government funfamentalists without fostering real and genuine reforms. This paper aims to overcome ideological confrontations by first empirically identifying the most efficient elements of the Italian capitalist system (a random set of family, state and managerial enterprises) then indicate the type of reforms that are deemed necessary. Reforms that will be difficult to apply considering the power of persuasion of the large lobbies, but that will eventually become necessary if the latest crises (the 2008/2009 financial crisis, the Covid19 pandemic and the explosion in energy costs caused by the Russia/West war) will exacerbate inequalities and divisions between the great rich, the great poor and the marginalized classes
