Critica fra le righe: scelte lessicali pregnanti (nelle Silvae) e un problema testuale (in Petronio)

Discussion on three key features of the style of Statius’ Silvae (with an example from the Achilleid): 1) the massive presence of Greek words, matched by a lexicon marked as ‘typically Latin’; 2) the propensity to play with the reader’s expectations, by means of phrases that might be read in different ways, due to the absence of diacritics in the ancient text; 3) the use of evocative adjectives, which allows Statius to echo his Augustan models. An emendation to Petron. 5, 1, 18 is also suggested.

Discussione di tre elementi fondamentali dello stile delle Silvae di Stazio (con un esempio dall'Achilleide): 1) la massiccia presenza di parole greche, bilanciate da un lessico marcato come 'tipicamente latino'; 2) la tendenza a giocare con le aspettative del lettore, attraverso formulazioni che potrebbero essere intese in modi diversi, per via dell'assenza di diacritici nel testo antico; 3) l'uso di un'aggettivazione evocativa, che permette a Stazio di echeggiare i suoi modelli augustei. Una correzione a Petron. 5, 1, 18 è altresì proposta.
