The article identifies a series of jungian elements in the teaching method and contents of Mirko Basaldella's teaching at the Gradiate School of Design at Harvard. While these elements connect Mirko to the discourse of Surrealism, they also contribute to a general reconsideration of the realtionship between the teaching of art and design at college level in America and the contemporary art scene, partially de-constructing the separation between academics and militant criticism suggested by authors such as Clement Greenberg.

Abstract

The article identifies a series of jungian elements in the teaching method and contents of Mirko Basaldella's teaching at the Gradiate School of Design at Harvard. While these elements connect Mirko to the discourse of Surrealism, they also contribute to a general reconsideration of the realtionship between the teaching of art and design at college level in America and the contemporary art scene, partially de-constructing the separation between academics and militant criticism suggested by authors such as Clement Greenberg.
