After an abstract pictorial beginning, Betty Danon (Istanbul, 1927-Milan, 2002) has been a central figure in the experimentation of visual poetry and then of Mail Art. Multilingual, multicultural, far from the logics of the market and of the dominant art system, for some years now she is beginning to receive the attention she deserves. The aim of this study is to contribute to this ongoing process by reconstructing some of the fundamental stages of her poetics, shedding light on aspects of the utmost interest that are still little known.
Dopo un inizio pittorico astratto, Betty Danon (Istanbul, 1927-Milano, 2002) è stata una figura centrale nell’ambito delle sperimentazioni della poesia visiva e poi della Mail Art. Poliglotta, multiculturale, lontana dalle logiche del mercato e del sistema dell’arte dominante, da qualche anno sta cominciando a ricevere la giusta attenzione che merita. Il presente studio intende contribuire a questo processo in atto ricostruendo alcune delle tappe fondamentali della sua poetica, facendo luce su aspetti di massimo interesse ancora poco noti.
