Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) is commonly advocated as a key opportunity in the field of radio-oncological treatment approach. It allows more precise treatment delivery by combination of the rapid dose fall-off associated with intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) and daily imaging in regard to both tumour targeting and effective sparing of surrounding organs at risk (OARs) (Nguyen and Karlsson, 2015). One of the most innovative and promising opportunities in the context of the IGRT is represented by the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to support the delivery of radiotherapy (RT) treatment course.
