The newspaper stories on the crisis in Ireland accumulate, full of drama and frantic intensity: daily news, institutional events, and economic happenings in these difficult times on the Emerald Isle. why are the best contemporary Irish writers, who are surely capable of creating an autonomous literary representation of the current state of Ireland, not interested or not able to relive the extraordinary, yet always personal, “communal inclination” of their illustrious predecessors? Why do they have the tendency to solipsism that rarely translates to a concrete, non-ideological, contribution to understanding the life of Irish citizens, something as a cultural contribution that intends to socially educate ?
