"Magia naturalis", the best known and most popular work of G.B. della Porta becam a seminal source for later developments in the cultural, scientific and literary history of several European countries.This article offers an historical overview of the reception of the treatise, it traces the impact of Della Porta on scientific thought and on literature, focusing on the most influential themes in the "Magia naturalis". It then attempts to identify, from a social and cultural perspective, the different milieus as well as the varied circles of readers who fell under Della Porta's spell.
