Leggiuno e i suoi abitanti. Un'indagine storico-demografica (secoli XVII-XVIII)

Starting from the study of parish registers, the paper deals with demographic trends of the parish of Leggiuno between 1679 and 1799. Core of the narrative are the three chapters dealing, respectively, with birth, marriage and death, each one accompanied by graphs and tables. Demographic information collected show us a traditional peasant world, governed by the post-Tridentine Catholic worship, forced to confront day to day hardships of every kind, such as famine and epidemics, which prevented the marked population growth that would have occurred only in the nineteenth century.

A partire dallo studio dei registri parrocchiali, l'articolo ripercorre l'andamento demografico della parrocchia di Leggiuno tra il 1679 e il 1799. Nucleo della narrazione sono i tre capitoli dedicati, rispettivamente, a natalità, nuzialità e mortalità, ciascuno corredato da grafici e tabelle. Le informazioni di carattere anagrafico ci rinviano a un mondo contadino tradizionale, disciplinato dal culto cattolico post-tridentino, costretto a misurarsi giorno per giorno con avversità di ogni genere, come carestie ed epidemie, che impedirono quella crescita marcata della popolazione che si sarebbe verificata solo dall'Ottocento.
