Along with musical compositions belonging to the Roman-Frankish chant (the so-called "Gregorian Chant" as such), the Vatican edition of the Roman Graduale publishes many pieces of Medieval and even later composition. In the 19th century many "later" items were printed as pseudo-Gregorian chant (see e.g. the well known Adeste Fideles). In the current editions, some traces of this "medievalising" practice are still detectable in the 1974 Graduale. It is important to realise that performing these pieces as if they were Gregorian Chant would be a forgery.

Abstract
Along with musical compositions belonging to the Roman-Frankish chant (the so-called "Gregorian Chant" as such), the Vatican edition of the Roman Graduale publishes many pieces of Medieval and even later composition. In the 19th century many "later" items were printed as pseudo-Gregorian chant (see e.g. the well known Adeste Fideles). In the current editions, some traces of this "medievalising" practice are still detectable in the 1974 Graduale. It is important to realise that performing these pieces as if they were Gregorian Chant would be a forgery.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
