The study examined the perceptions married couples had of family relationships during various phases of their life cycle when one of the partners had been diagnosed as being diabetic. The goal was to examine how couples with a patient suffering from non-insulin dependent diabetes cope with this critical event in their lives and also to try to throw light on a crucial aspect of family life, namely the couple relationship. In particular, we wanted to focus on the nature of the marital bond and the effect of marital behaviors on the treatment of NIDD. In this study we try to determine whether the marital bond is a resource or an obstacle referring to the treatment of NIDD.This study is a multimethod research based on Rolland's model applied in the context of current theories on the family life-cycle.

Abstract
The study examined the perceptions married couples had of family relationships during various phases of their life cycle when one of the partners had been diagnosed as being diabetic. The goal was to examine how couples with a patient suffering from non-insulin dependent diabetes cope with this critical event in their lives and also to try to throw light on a crucial aspect of family life, namely the couple relationship. In particular, we wanted to focus on the nature of the marital bond and the effect of marital behaviors on the treatment of NIDD. In this study we try to determine whether the marital bond is a resource or an obstacle referring to the treatment of NIDD.This study is a multimethod research based on Rolland's model applied in the context of current theories on the family life-cycle.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
