Stefan George’s poems occur in some of the most popular middle school books published in Germany between 1918 and 1945. This essay aims to analyse a selection of them in order to show how the manipulation of George’s poetry contributed to the transition from the Nationalistic spirit of the Weimar Republic to the National Socialist thought of the Third Reich.
