In the economy of Jesuits educational system rhetoric has an exceptional relief: placed at the top of humanistic studies, its teaching is preceded by other two courses, grammar and humanity, wich could be considered propedeutic to it. Ratio studiorum combine to instrumental role of sharpening intellective talents in disputes practices the connotative role typical of a poished and impeccable communication: ratio nec utilitati solum servit, sed etiam ornati indulget.
