The essay analyzes some courtiers at the court of the Gonzagas: musicians, poets and entertainers with improvisational skills. They were esteemed and trusted individuals, who allowed the marquis to build ties with other Signori and made the court as a whole more refined and elegant. Among them, the Filippo Lapacino, from Florence, and a figure simply called Poeta, who we can now identify, thanks to some documentary research, as Giovan Francesco Picenardi (a figure akin to Serafino Aquilano).
