The article provides a corpus driven analysis, based on a bidirectional Italian-Russian Parallel Corpus, of the Italian adverb/conjunction allora, which has acquired also textual and discursive functions. As a result of the analysis it was possible to determine that allora does not have an exact equivalent in Russian. The Russian marker togda presents only a part of the polyfunctionality of allora, as it may have adverbial temporal or, more rarely, connective consequential meaning. Nonetheless togda, unlike allora, rarely combines these meanings in ambiguous semantics. Syntactically, the holophrastic use of Italian allora is very unusual for Russian togda. Furthermore, togda may combine its basic semantics with the pragmatic function of marking conclusion by inference, but the other pragmatic functions of allora are distributed among other markers like: i tut, tut, tak, itak (for metatextual pragmatic functions) and nu or že, (for interactional pragmatic functions.)
