In 1935, after multiple unsuccessful attempts to obtain Stefan George’s support, the National Socialist regime decided to distance itself publicly from the memory of the poet (who had died in December 1933). Nevertheless, through the years George’s poems have acquired an increasingly important position in the high school books of the Third Reich. This essay aims to explain the reason of this apparent incongruence.

Abstract
In 1935, after multiple unsuccessful attempts to obtain Stefan George’s support, the National Socialist regime decided to distance itself publicly from the memory of the poet (who had died in December 1933). Nevertheless, through the years George’s poems have acquired an increasingly important position in the high school books of the Third Reich. This essay aims to explain the reason of this apparent incongruence.File in questo prodotto:
