Viaggio in As You Like It e le età dell'uomo

“As You Like It” is a comedy where Shakespeare deals with, among other things, the ages of man. The play is built around the shift between past and present, the fights between younger and elder brothers, the Golden Age and the Iron Age of the earth. The pivot the work turns round is Jacques’ monologue in Act II, scene vii, where the seven ages of man are enlisted and described one by one.

Questo lavoro propone una lettura di As You Like It come commedia nella quale Shakespeare affronta, fra le altre cose, anche le età dell’uomo. All’interno del testo, infatti, è facile rintracciare un’alternanza tra presente e passato abbinata, soprattutto, alla presenza di fratelli minori in lotta con i rispettivi fratelli maggiori, e, soprattutto, all’evidente contrasto tra età dell’oro ed età del ferro. Punto di arrivo di questo lavoro è, ovviamente, il monologo di Jacques nell’Atto II, scena VII, dove le sette età dell’uomo vengono elencate e abbinate alle rispettive peculiarità.
