Freedom of religion is a fundamental right recognized in many acts within international and European law. It includes the right for everyone to have, to change and to manifest his religion. Serious violations of this right could be ascertained as a form of persecution giving rise to the right, for those who escape from places where this right is not respected, to obtain the recognition of the status of refugee, according to the Geneva Convention of 1951, and to the EU directive 2011/95/EU concerning the recognition of an international protection for refugees. The goal of this contribution is to verify the relationship between the right to freedom of religion and of the status of refugee considering, in particular, the applications of these institutes given by the international judicial and quasi-judicial organs.

Abstract
Freedom of religion is a fundamental right recognized in many acts within international and European law. It includes the right for everyone to have, to change and to manifest his religion. Serious violations of this right could be ascertained as a form of persecution giving rise to the right, for those who escape from places where this right is not respected, to obtain the recognition of the status of refugee, according to the Geneva Convention of 1951, and to the EU directive 2011/95/EU concerning the recognition of an international protection for refugees. The goal of this contribution is to verify the relationship between the right to freedom of religion and of the status of refugee considering, in particular, the applications of these institutes given by the international judicial and quasi-judicial organs.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
