The Greek world included different categories of traveling intellectuals. Some of these travellers could be considered “migrants”: that is persons who abandoned, more-or-less permanently, their own city and their own environment, due to educational or professional motives. The paper presents some comments on a specific category of migrant intellectuals: professionals who specialised in thought, word and education. This includes logographers, rhetoricians, sophists and philosophers, who moved around the classical world culturally headed by Athens. The focus is on their expectations and the opportunities they encountered.

Abstract
The Greek world included different categories of traveling intellectuals. Some of these travellers could be considered “migrants”: that is persons who abandoned, more-or-less permanently, their own city and their own environment, due to educational or professional motives. The paper presents some comments on a specific category of migrant intellectuals: professionals who specialised in thought, word and education. This includes logographers, rhetoricians, sophists and philosophers, who moved around the classical world culturally headed by Athens. The focus is on their expectations and the opportunities they encountered.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
