Future Dialogue (FD) is a method which promotes family participation in decision-making processes and it is aimed at coping with growing worry about a specific situation, in collaboration with the people involved. In this paper, starting with an Italian pilot study in child protection, a qualitative research on the FD method is explained. The aim of the research was to analyse the FD method both as a process and an outcome. The results emerging from 14 semi-structured interviews with children, family members, social workers who had participated in FD sessions, will be discussed. This research confirms the efficacy of participatory social work practices in child protection and the importance to continue practising and studying these collaborative methods.
