Adolescence is a transitional phase of life whose complexity is nowadays enhanced by the lack of rites of passage, intergenerational paradoxes and contradictions, and a widespread sense of uncertainty and fear of the future. This chapter outlines a phenomenological portrait of the adolescent of our times, in order to provide school teachers and educators with a deeper understanding of the lived experience of their students and their emotional world.
