The presentation introduces to the results of two recent PhD Theses; one about Dante's De vulgari eloquentia, the other about the philosophical parts of Manzoni's Scritti linguistici. It deals with the outsiders of a disciplinary tradiitions, who are nevertheless giants in their own fields, i.e. in literary creation. It testifies to a sort of philosophia perennis, even if outside the disciplinary canon and in more or less remote times.
