The author concludes in favour of the persisting relevance of the Convention, which only would need limited restyling, aimed at encouraging broader ratification by ILO member States.

Il saggio ricostruisce gli antefatti della Convenzione dell'Organizzazione internazionale del lavoro n. 158 sui licenziamenti e quindi affronta nel dettaglio l'esegesi del testo normativo, discutendone criticamente i punti di forza e debolezza. L'autore conclude nel senso della persistente attualità della Convenzione, che richiederebbe soltanto un limitato restyling, volto a favorirne una più ampia ratifica da parte degli Stati aderenti all'organizzazione.
