Brescia, l'Italia e l'Africa: momenti e figure di una dinamica storica

The essay focuses on the partnership between the African continent and the Catholic world of Brescia, on alternate fates: if in the nineteenth and throughout the twentieth century it was the Brescians who went to Africa, in the last two decades it is Africans (not only Catholics ) to choose the city and its neighboring territories as a new residence company. The most important figures (of Brescian origin) who dedicated their mission to the African peoples are mentioned, from Fr. Daniele Comboni to the new martyrs. Other important Brescia projections towards the African continent are Giovanni Battista Montini (first cardinal to go to African soil), MEP Mario Pedini, advocate of a "Euro-African" vision of reciprocity between the two continents, and Vittorio Chizzolini with his civil service project in Somalia for young teachers.

Il saggio mette a fuoco il sodalizio tra il continente africano e il mondo cattolico bresciano, a sorti alterne: se nell'Ottocento e lungo tutto il Novecento sono stati i bresciani a recarsi in Africa, negli ultimi due decenni sono gli africani (non solo cattolici) a scegliere la città e i suoi territori limitrofi come società di neo-residenza. Sono menzionate le più importanti figure (di origine bresciana) che hanno dedicato la propria missione ai popoli africani, da p. Daniele Comboni ai nuovi martiri. Altre importanti proiezioni bresciane verso il continente africano sono quelle di Giovanni Battista Montini (primo cardinale a recarsi in suolo africano), dell'eurodeputato Mario Pedini, fautore di una visione "euro-africana" di reciprocità tra i due continenti, e di Vittorio Chizzolini con il suo progetto di servizio civile in Somalia per giovani maestri.
