The paper studies the history of Brescia between the end of the seventh century and the beginning of the eighth century, to reconstruct the political, social and religious environment in which Petronace lived before going to Montecassino. In Brescia, the supporters of the Aryan traditionalism of the Lombards opposed catholicisation. In the city lived important families of the Lombard aristocracy, which at that time became important for the control of the kingdom.
