In this article two typologies of the journey, undertaken and described by two different Romantic poets, William Wordsworth and Lord Byron, are studied to show how a specific personal journey may be diversely presented, elaborated, rendered significant and reproposed in poetry. The texts examined are Books VI and XIV of "The Prelude" of Wordsworth, and Canto III of "Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage" of Byron. The study demonstrates how the journey becomes a modality of expression for two different conceptions of Nature, creativity and imagination.

Abstract

In this article two typologies of the journey, undertaken and described by two different Romantic poets, William Wordsworth and Lord Byron, are studied to show how a specific personal journey may be diversely presented, elaborated, rendered significant and reproposed in poetry. The texts examined are Books VI and XIV of "The Prelude" of Wordsworth, and Canto III of "Childe Harold’s Pilgrimage" of Byron. The study demonstrates how the journey becomes a modality of expression for two different conceptions of Nature, creativity and imagination.
