In 2017, a group of different social players composed of institutions, communities and associations belonging to six different faiths (Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Jewish), cultural/artistic performers and citizens, developed in Brescia the project Dòsti – Ideas for a festival of religious arts and cultures: a pilot project meant to facilitate intercultural process and interreligious dialogue through the use of performing languages, active participation, interaction and cooperative planning. The article aims at showing: 1) the reasons why performing arts are an effective instrument to establish positive relations and interactions within a multicultural and plural community; 2) the steps taken to connect together the different social actors concerned; 3) the major problems arised in the process of achieving the objective itself (dialogue among people from different faiths), in reference to the following aspects: event structure; ethnic/religious communities participation; citizens involvement; dialogue/relations difficulties; role played by the performing arts in overcoming interaction difficulties. Finally, the article illustrates the potential emerged from the use of performing practises for the development of Dòsti as an interreligious and intercultural process, in terms of: a) reciprocal knowledge and recognition among faiths and cultures; b) involvement, interaction and authorship of the communities, especially of religious minorities; c) participation of young people, mostly of foreign origin, both as audience and as ‘authors’; d) quality of socio-cultural policy and interaction among religious groups, institutions and third sector.
