This work intends to evaluate the possibility that Isidore of Seville had knowledge of Gaius’ Institutiones. To this purpose, some ‘assonances’ between passages of the related works are analyzed: in particular, as regards the bishop of Seville’s the Etymologiae and the Differentiae. The research leads to the conclusion, contrary to what has been thought up to now, of both a probable knowledge by Isidore of the Gaian Institutiones and, in some instances, even of a direct re-elaboration of these.

Abstract
This work intends to evaluate the possibility that Isidore of Seville had knowledge of Gaius’ Institutiones. To this purpose, some ‘assonances’ between passages of the related works are analyzed: in particular, as regards the bishop of Seville’s the Etymologiae and the Differentiae. The research leads to the conclusion, contrary to what has been thought up to now, of both a probable knowledge by Isidore of the Gaian Institutiones and, in some instances, even of a direct re-elaboration of these.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
