Fifty years after the death of Don Lorenzo Milani and the publication of Let- teras to a teacher, the school of Barbiana continues to provide food for pedagocical debate. This little school in Mugello and its priest-teacher have taken on symbolic value and speak to us of all the “Barbiane” that still exist. The “Letter” that was sent fifty years ago speaks to us today and calls for our response through a commitment in solidarity to school renewal and inclusive- ness which can give a voice to those who live on the fringes today.

Abstract

Fifty years after the death of Don Lorenzo Milani and the publication of Let- teras to a teacher, the school of Barbiana continues to provide food for pedagocical debate. This little school in Mugello and its priest-teacher have taken on symbolic value and speak to us of all the “Barbiane” that still exist. The “Letter” that was sent fifty years ago speaks to us today and calls for our response through a commitment in solidarity to school renewal and inclusive- ness which can give a voice to those who live on the fringes today.
