In recent years economic Europe has received much criticism, often not based on a full understanding of the facts. The most frequent criticism is that Economic Europe (EE) is inadequate to construct and maintain a community of peoples and states that configure a federal or confederal system. Our thesis is that EE as it is constructed is a foundation for moving forward to more advanced forms of shared sovereignty that were previously wholly impossible, as demonstrated by the continuing resistance to this step. What should be noted is that the three great principles of subsidiarity, solidarity and development underlying EE are the same that, with an institutional and political evolution, will serve to move forward towards federal or confederal systems that cannot be mechanically transplanted from other historical cases, since the European Community is a new form of democracy, which we can call Eurodemocracy (ED).
