Il mito come filtro interpretativo della realtà: la guerra di Troia nei tragici greci

The expedition against Troy, the subject of the first written narrative of the West, with its very rich complex of heroic legends, was for antiquity the war par excellence. Especially for Attic tragedians, it represented a sort of screen, consecrated by the authority of myth, on which to project their own ideological vision of war, and in particular of the real wars in which the polis Athenian was involved. The aim of this essay is to analyze the tragedies dedicated to the Trojan war in the three major Attic tragedians (in particular Aeschlylus’ Agamemnon, Sophocles’ Ajax and Philoctetes, Euripides’ Troades) in order to bring to light the different ideological approaches underlying them.

La spedizione contro Troia, oggetto della prima narrazione scritta dell’Occidente, con il suo ricchissimo complesso di leggende eroiche, era per l’antichità la guerra per eccellenza, in cui si consumò il primo scontro tra Occidente e Oriente. Soprattutto per i tragediografi attici, che spesso misero in scena episodi ad essa ispirati, essa rappresentò una sorta di schermo, consacrato dall’autorevolezza del mito, su cui proiettare la propria visione ideologica della guerra, e in particolare delle guerre reali in cui la polis ateniese era coinvolta. Questo saggio è dedicato all’analisi dei drammi dedicati alla guerra troiana nei tre tragediografi attici, in particolare Agamennone di Eschilo, Aiace e Filottete di Sofocle, Troiane di Euripide, allo scopo di portare alla luce i diversi approcci ideologici che li hanno ispirati.
