In 2014 a national survey of Italian pre-schools showed that 84.8 per cent had already activated some form of L2 teaching or ‘awareness of other languages’-type programme. The Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR) has proposed CLIL as an appropriate approach for this level, yet there are few guidelines available as to how L2 projects should be implemented. This chapter follows the development and implementation of a CLIL project in two pre-schools. It presents qualitative data from the classroom and provides an insight into teachers’ and children’s perceptions of the project.

Abstract
In 2014 a national survey of Italian pre-schools showed that 84.8 per cent had already activated some form of L2 teaching or ‘awareness of other languages’-type programme. The Italian Ministry of Education (MIUR) has proposed CLIL as an appropriate approach for this level, yet there are few guidelines available as to how L2 projects should be implemented. This chapter follows the development and implementation of a CLIL project in two pre-schools. It presents qualitative data from the classroom and provides an insight into teachers’ and children’s perceptions of the project.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
