This essay presents an etymological genealogy of the expression «Cold War» by analyzing the cultural construction of the concepts underlying it. It highlighting the semantic transformations created by the Anglo-American press from the late 1940s to the last years of the 1940s. In this reconstruction, the essay aims at understanding the genesis of an interpretative frame of reference within which, during the second half of the Twentieth Century up to the current day, the dynamics of the international system have been analyzed.
